About Sing Gospel

Sing Gospel is more than just a choir—it’s a vibrant, joy-filled community dedicated to spreading the transformative power of gospel music. From our humble beginnings in West London to our performances on some of the country’s most renowned stages, we’ve grown into a dynamic force for musical expression, connection, and inspiration.

Our Story - spreading the love of Gospel.

Sing Gospel was founded in 2010, after Reverend David Brammer introduced Josh Cadman, a talented member of the London Community Gospel Choir and emerging choir director, to Bert Routledge, a serial musician and entrepreneur with a heart for the local community of Acton. With a shared passion for gospel music, Josh and Bert began hosting gospel workshops during the Easter and summer holidays across various churches in West London. These workshops culminated in large-scale concerts that brought people together through the joyous sound of gospel music.

In 2013, Sing Gospel took a new step forward by establishing a weekly choir at St. Mary’s Church in Acton, merging the smaller local choirs they had started. As the choir grew in size and strength, the group became a finalist in the BBC Gospel Choir of the Year 2016, airing on BBC One. This achievement marked a turning point, drawing members from across London and generating a wave of performance bookings.

Building on this momentum, we created a Session Choir, an auditioned group of our most dedicated singers, to take on professional engagements. Our performances spanned from weddings to recording sessions, with memorable highlights including performances at the London Palladium and recording sessions at the legendary Abbey Road Studios.

By 2019, Sing Gospel had grown to over 100 members, necessitating a move to a new venue, Christ the Saviour Primary School in Ealing. We also introduced an in-house band to our weekly rehearsals, bringing a party-like atmosphere and ensuring we were concert-ready for our increasingly ambitious events. Even the COVID-19 pandemic couldn’t stop us—rehearsals moved online, and in July 2020, we hosted a live online concert that showcased our resilience and the spirit of gospel music.

As restrictions lifted, we returned in September 2021 to a larger venue in Ealing, and in 2023, we began rehearsing twice a month at Acton Baptist Church. We continue to perform multiple concerts annually, including our spectacular Christmas event in Chiswick. The Session Choir remains active, collaborating with artists from around the world while delivering high-energy performances at corporate events and weddings.

At Sing Gospel, we’ve never lost our "workshop spirit"—we continue to spread the joy of gospel music through workshops at churches, schools, and businesses across the UK, ensuring that everyone, from beginners to professionals, experiences the uplifting power of gospel.
